Today's Youth, Tomorrow's Leaders

CSV is committed to skills development, particularly skills development for the youth of South Africa. A number of initiatives, including learnerships for unemployed and unskilled individuals to gain skills and potential work opportunities in construction, to youth development programmes have become a part of CSV’s Social Responsibility Programme.

In 2014, CSV signed on to join the Go for Gold Initiative which supports students from underpriviledged communities to enter the world of construction. Research indicates that most high school students do not enter tertiary institutions to study in a construction related field as a result of lack of career guidance support and or as a result of poor Maths and Science results. In fact, the majority of students from underpriviledged backgrounds drop Maths and Science after Grade 9. This is in turn results in fewer students from these communities entering the Civil Engineering and Quantity Surveying fields, amongst others. It is hoped that programmes such as these will not only improve skill sets of students but will also see these skill sets enter the exciting world of construction.

The CSV Academy was launched in 2014 to support local youth from the Helderberg and Stellenbosch with opportunities in Construction, ranging from bursaries at tertiary institutions for studies in Civil-related subjects to practical on-the-job internships.
